When I went to the Outer Banks in '04, two of my favorites were the Diamond Shoals Restaurant and the Buxton Munch. There was also an ice-cream shop located at a fork in the road, along Hwy 12, across from a place with the name "Bilbo's" in it. Dirty ***** has reallllly good food. They have really good waiters and waitresses too.

Basnight's Lone Cedar is excellent. Beach prices like anywhere else, of course. But the food is fabulous. I suggest going for lunch. It is located on the Causeway coming into Nag's Head from Manteo.
