How does Gordon Ramsay pick the restaurants for the show Kitchen Nightmares?

My girlfriend and I are watching Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares and we were wondering if anybody knew how the restaurants were picked. Does Ramsay know about struggling restaurants or do the owners send in to the show? If the owners send in to the show why do they usually end up fighting with him and want him to leave?How does Gordon Ramsay pick the restaurants for the show Kitchen Nightmares?

I've wondered the same thing. Surely they've seen the show, they know what's going to happen.....why be such an *** about it when it happens?
Folks submit their request for Ramsay's help. The reason they fight him is because he gives them the truth and its hard for most of them to handle - if you're a fan of the show, you've seen the owners/chefs reactions...priceless.

people submit to the production companies or casting agencies. On Craigslist in the tv/film section I always see adds from those leeches looking for people to do reality shows for ANYTHING you can think of.





"do you hate your lips?"

"Do you have 10+ possible baby Daddies?"

"do you have the ugliest house?"

etc etc.
