What kind of white rice do they serve in Chinese restaurants?

We have tried numerous kinds, but cannot get that "sweet" (for lack of a better word) taste that the restaurants have. We just bought a rice cooker and have got the consistency right, but not the taste. What kind of white rice do they serve in Chinese restaurants?
they put sugar and vinegar in it.

3 cups Japanese-style rice

3 1/4 cups water

1/3 cup rice wine vinegar

2 tbsp sugar

1 tsp salt

Try jasmine rice. In Oakland's chinatown it's what most of the grocery markets sell in 50 lb bags. I think TLH is confusing sushi rice with chinese rice.
My grandmother is Japanese and she uses Jasmine or Basmati rice for her cooking. I'm not too sure if it is the same thing but I know I love it :)
In resturants they add a lot of sugar to everything. Americans are addicted to sugar and so they love it when it is "Hidden" in resturant menus. If you have the taste and texture down except for the sweet - then sugar it up.
Jasnmine rice! No doubt.

But the cheap ones tends to be more "sticky" and not so tasty.

At least from what i have experienced.
jasmine rice.. usually imported from thailand or vietnam, 1 part rice to 1 3/ 4 water.. sweet taste is all natural..
Try to get a brand called Rose make sure that is not the sticky rice, ask the merchant.
Diamond brand Texas long grain rice is what my family always used. But I use Jasmine, or any kind of rice. We always rinse the rice twice before steaming it -- even though now it comes fortified with vitamins: Just an old habit.
They do not add sugar to chinese rice..

They just use less water when they cook.. they cook a lot of it one day...

I think you need to get sweet rice.. because there is kind that is sweet rice.. and most of them is not sweet rice

so when you go to store look for the sweet rice..
You may try any long grain rice imported from Thailand or Australia that you can get in supermarkets or Asian grocery stores. Newly harvested rice may taste "sweeter".
