What kind of oil do restaurants use to cook the fries?

I am a vegetarian and I was just wondering what kind of oil fries are cooked in at restaurants. If some restaurants use different oils, please write the names of the restaurants/fast-food places so I know. Thanks ! (:What kind of oil do restaurants use to cook the fries?
It depends on each restaurant. Your best bet is to phone around where you might be interested in eating. Just make sure you not only ask about what kind of oil they use, but also if they deep fry meat in the same fryer as the fries.



My husband has worked at a lot of places as a cook, and he says that even if the oil is vegetable based, it's contaminated because they fry the fries in the exact same oil as chicken wings, chicken strips, fish, shrimp, etc. He's worked as a cook for over 15 years now, and he says that he has never worked at a place that has a separate fryer for meat and non-meat items.

It depends on the restaurant but places like McDonald's use vegetable oil, peanut oil or lard to fry things in. Sorry I don't know exactly because it depends on where you live but you know its one of these three oils....
Most restaurants today use canola oil. Peanut oil is dangerous due to allergies and most do not use lard anymore

Canola oils is also more stable and last longer at high cooking temperatures
Vegetable oils of many types and brands are used in catering and can all be eaten by vegetarians. Just remember things like chicken nuggets also go through the frier's.
