A few weeks before the big day, bride-to-be Janet Shaver and one of her best girlfriends decided at the last minute to hop on a plane to Miami for a weekend in the sun. "[We] wanted to go somewhere warm, get some color and relax," Shaver said.

Overflowing with beaches, elaborate dining, shopping and a hot night scene, illustrious Miami's an irresistible choice for a weekend away. In only a few days, Shaver and her friend squeezed in hours of sunbathing, dining out, cocktails and clubbing. In addition to the South Beach glitz, she enjoyed many of the perks of a Caribbean vacation 鈥?ethnic foods, diverse cultural traditions, and warm weather year-round 鈥?without having to worry about passports, safe drinking water and other hassles associated with crossing borders.

You, too, can throw your friend a memorable weekend in Miami by keeping a few things in mind.

The Bachelorette Pad

When it comes to accommodations, crash in SoBe, the heart of the city's nightlife. It's filled with prestigious dining rooms, legendary bars, exuberant dance clubs, chic shopping centers, pristine beaches and fascinating architecture.

Many exclusive hotels grace this neighborhood's shoreline, but before putting down big bucks on your lodging, remember that with all Miami's got to offer, you probably won't be spending a lot of time at the hotel. If the girls are on a tight budget (which most are after purchasing bridesmaid's dresses and wedding gifts) and willing to forgo luxury amenities, you need not sacrifice style and fun. The Kent Hotel in South Beach's Art Deco District offers funky rooms, decorated in soft purple with retro custom furnishings. A 30-inch flat screen, TV/DVD player and mini-bar are conducive to late-nights of chic-flicks and Sex and the City re-runs.

As far as recreation goes, all you need are directions to the ocean, your swimsuit, shades and an issue of Modern Bride.

A Night on the Town

Take a cab to Lincoln Road and browse the eclectic assortment, from art galleries to clothing boutiques, on the shopping scene. Be sure to stick your head in Fly Boutique, an upscale vintage clothing store. Nearby is Base, a one-of-a-kind specialty shop featuring designer apparel, home d茅cor and music, and American Appeal carries casual wear and swimsuits.

Once you're ready to break from shopping, stop in at one of the neighborhood's ethnic eateries. At Yuca, a yuppified Cuban joint, attractive 20-somethings dig into imaginative cuisine 鈥?lobster mash, shredded yucca fries, sugar cane skewered Guava shrimp and braised oxtail in wine sauce and onion. Have drinks at the upstairs bar, where you'll likely rub elbows with some locals 鈥?hopefully tall, dark and handsome ones.

Six on the Beach

What better way to bond than basking in the sun and giggling over mojitos? Forget dragging around the cooler, radio and beach chairs and hit Nikki Beach, an outdoor oceanfront club and one of SoBe's most popular party destinations. Every Saturday, from 11am to 7pm, the club features DJs, lunch specials and hot drink specials. Come as you are (which in Miami, means a bikini), and when the posse grows tired of the afternoon heat, take a dip in the ocean. Six is the lucky number, so if you have at least that many chicks in tow, call ahead and tell them you're coming for a bachelorette gig and you will receive discounted pitchers of mojitos!

Reach for the Stars

The only thing better than partying like the rich and famous is partying with them! If the bride doesn't mind being shown up, see if you can catch the celebs at their favorite SoBe digs.

Italian's the flavor of the week along Lincoln Road, where Quattro, a gorgeous restaurant and bar, recently appeared on the scene. Tonight's the time to misbehave a little, so go ahead and splurge on that tantalizing plate of lasagna and at least one pricey Italian wine. Linger at the striking marble-topped bar, keeping your eye out for the likes of Jessica Alba, Paris Hilton and Beyonc茅, all of whom have been spotted here.

If you miss the famed guests or aren't lucky enough to overhear their next destination, the best bet's to continue shindigging at the dazzling Mansion Club. To make it past the velvet rope, sport your trendiest attire and exude an air of confidence. Hollywood types show up here frequently, but finding them might prove a challenge 鈥?this huge club boasts nine bars, four dance floors and more pretty faces than you can count!

Beauty Rest

After a night of partying, a hot morning meal and luxurious spa treatments are the order of the day. Enjoy a decadent and leisurely Sunday brunch in the chic Blue Door, a high-profile dining room housed in the Delano Hotel, and then head upstairs to the Aqua Bathhouse Spa.
