What is the cheese they use at Mexican restaurants?

Like real mexican restaurants, not Taco Bell or like Mexican bar/grills.

Its White and Its just amazing. I want to be able to make stuff at home with it.What is the cheese they use at Mexican restaurants?
At your nearby mexican store, and yes it is called queso fresco. There is also a different type of cheese, its basically string cheese. Its called queso de hebra. Hoped that helped.

Queso Fresco - crumbles easily. others are:

Queso Blanco - very similar to Monterrey Jack or Mozzarella in flavor

Panela - crumbles very easily and has a slightly salty flavor

Requesè´¸n - a very soft texture similar to Italian ricotta cheese

Queso Quesadilla - mild in flavor

Asadero- stronger flavor

Manchego - yellow color and tangy flavor

Oaxaca - similar texture to string cheese, and

Most major supermarkets carry this type of cheese in the dairy section.



If you can't find it, sometimes I search the web for mexican supermarkets near (whatever your location). That might help.
It is round and thick and white. One brand name is Cacinque and you find at some supermarkets but also at a Mexican mercado.
In Mexican restaurants they sometimes use Monterary Jack or Sharp Cheddar. At some points they might even use monzzerela.
queso fresco is typical you can find it in grocery stores now...or try a mexican grocer.
