What is that tea Indian restaurants serve and where can I get it?

Indian restaurants always have this self-serve tea (at least the ones in Berkeley) that is a light tan color because it has milk in it. I think it's a sort of black tea, but it's absolutely delicious and I'd love to make it at home. What kind of tea is it and where can I buy it?What is that tea Indian restaurants serve and where can I get it?
It's chai tea. Trader Joe's sells a pretty good mix.
Masala Chai -literally meaning spiced tea. You can buy Assam tea and crush your own spices.. both can be found in an Indian Asian grocery store. There are many variations of it and some are to my liking, while some are not, so you will probably have to taste around a bit if you want a prepackaged one. The Assam bag I buy at the Indian grocery has directions and spices listed on the back. Whatever you choose, it's best if you boil your water with the milk. It gives it the steamed milk texture that is a must. Rishi tea has a good premixed chai. You can probably find some at Starbucks too. What is that tea Indian restaurants serve and where can I get it?
The tea you're thinking of is Masala Chai Tea.

Interesting story of how this tea actually keep into being. India exports 70% of its tea produced in the region and the remaining leaves were of lower quality. Lower quality tea is typically bitter in taste and small in leaf size.

As a way to rid the tea of its astringency the people of India began adding spices to the tea. The resulting combination caught on in England in the late 19th century and from there it has made it all around the world.

The most authentic Chai I've tried to date comes from Wiseman Tea Co. The great thing about ordering tea from them is you receive extra tea samples with your order.

http://www.wisemantea.com is the website if you're interested.

Hope this helps!
Ya, the only Chai I like is at Starbucks (sucks, I know). It is Tazo brand in a concentrate pump bottle that they don't sell over the counter. Delish!
